{"id":216893970,"date":"2012-11-04T16:53:01","date_gmt":"2012-11-04T03:53:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bignoseduglyguy.com\/?p=216893970"},"modified":"2012-11-04T16:53:09","modified_gmt":"2012-11-04T03:53:09","slug":"clipping-our-shavers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bignoseduglyguy.com\/?p=216893970","title":{"rendered":"Clipping our shavers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/bignoseduglyguy.com\/?p=216893843\">day-old chicks that we bought seven weeks ago<\/a>\u00a0have grown nicely into decently sized Brown Shaver pullets. \u00a0Having finished the grass cutting and shelter belt trimming, Wendy press-ganged our WWOOFer Alex and I into helping clip the hens&#8217; wings.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"IMG_8542.JPG\" src=\"http:\/\/bignoseduglyguy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/IMG_8542.jpg\" alt=\"IMG 8542\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Wing clipping is not as complicated or nasty as it sounds and simply involves snipping the ends of the primary feathers on one wing with a pair of scissors. This is enough to temporarily inhibit anything other than the shortest of flights which, in turn, helps to keep our free range birds fairly close to home.
