{"id":216893609,"date":"2012-01-19T20:08:05","date_gmt":"2012-01-19T07:08:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bignoseduglyguy.com\/?p=216893609"},"modified":"2012-01-19T20:08:08","modified_gmt":"2012-01-19T07:08:08","slug":"chinese-roulette","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bignoseduglyguy.com\/?p=216893609","title":{"rendered":"Chinese Roulette"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia; font-size: 14px;\">Contrary to what it might seem, this is not a photo of conditions on either of the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/MV_Rena\">listing<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Costa_Concordia\">ships<\/a> making the news recently. Rather, it is a picture of my good friend and fellow blogger <a href=\"http:\/\/www.funkypancake.com\/\">Dave Funkypancake<\/a> during one of our regular lunches, during which we catch up on family news and plan great things. \u00a0Given that I have recently moved into the office building Dave vacated not so long ago for another one elsewhere, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.atriumonelliott.co.nz\/food.html\">our favoured &#8216;lunch special&#8217; haunt<\/a> is no longer a convenient meeting point half way between our desks. \u00a0So, back from our holidays &#8211; he in England and me on the couch &#8211; we set out to find a new lunch venue equidistant from our respective desks. \u00a0This turned out to be a small, new \u00a0and as yet not on the web food court on an uninspiring stretch of road\u00a0on the southwestern edge of the CBD.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia; font-size: 14px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"IMG00062-20120118-1246.jpg\" src=\"http:\/\/bignoseduglyguy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/IMG00062-20120118-1246.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"IMG00062 20120118 1246\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"line-height: 15px; font-family: Georgia; font-size: 14px;\">Due to Chinese\/English translation issues during the ordering phase of lunch, I was served first but with the wrong dish. After assuring our lovely server that, despite her encouragement, accepting the wrong meal wasn&#8217;t something I wanted to do, she took it away. Dave&#8217;s order arrived without drama shortly thereafter and I filled in the time by taking a photo of him starting without me whilst looking suitably quizzical. <\/span><span style=\"line-height: 15px; font-family: Georgia; font-size: 14px;\">The lovely server arrived once more with another dish that I hadn&#8217;t ordered but, whilst the meal was cooked in an entirely different way, it did contain most of the same ingredients <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14px; line-height: 15px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia;\">as the one I ordered. \u00a0This being the case and with our lunch hour rapidly running out, I nodded excitedly like I&#8217;d just won the lunchtime lotto and tucked into my surprise lunch of not-satay but still beef on soft-rather-than-crispy noodles with not-ordered-and-not tasty vegetables. \u00a0Only time and a few more lunches will tell whether we will make <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.co.nz\/maps?q=10-14+Pitt+Street,+Auckland+Central,+Auckland&amp;hl=en&amp;sll=-36.855828,174.761152&amp;sspn=0.016877,0.019741&amp;oq=10-14+Pitt+St+Auckland+Central&amp;vpsrc=0&amp;gl=nz&amp;hnear=10%2F14+Pitt+St,+Auckland,+1010,+Auckland&amp;t=h&amp;z=17\">this place<\/a> our new default m\/eating place.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Contrary to what it might seem, this is not a photo of conditions on either of the listing ships making the news recently.
