{"id":216893459,"date":"2011-10-12T19:03:47","date_gmt":"2011-10-12T06:03:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bignoseduglyguy.com\/?p=216893459"},"modified":"2011-10-12T19:03:50","modified_gmt":"2011-10-12T06:03:50","slug":"the-last-piece-of-paper","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bignoseduglyguy.com\/?p=216893459","title":{"rendered":"The last piece of paper"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Five years, four months and 25 days ago, I wrote a post entitled\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/bignoseduglyguy.com\/?p=216892708\">Two pieces of paper<\/a>, in which I celebrated our family being granted returning residency in New Zealand.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"citizenship.jpg\" src=\"http:\/\/bignoseduglyguy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/citizenship1.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Citizenship\" width=\"180\" height=\"256\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Today, we each received a letter (<em>above<\/em>) requesting we attend a ceremony next month at Auckland Town Hall. \u00a0There, with just a twist of irony, we will swear allegiance to the Queen of the country we left six years ago and, by doing so, become citizens of New Zealand.<\/p>\n<p>We are &#8216;encouraged to wear the national dress of [our] country of origin&#8217; and I am currently favouring a curry and beer-stained England football shirt over a three piece suit and bowler hat.<\/p>\n<p><center><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"rooney.jpeg\" src=\"http:\/\/bignoseduglyguy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/rooney.jpeg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Rooney\" width=\"104\" height=\"200\" \/> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"citygent.jpeg\" src=\"http:\/\/bignoseduglyguy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/citygent.jpeg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Citygent\" width=\"107\" height=\"200\" \/><br \/>\n<\/center><br \/>\n<br \/>\nNeedless to say, we are chuffed to bits and look forward to the day when, 38 months after arriving in New Zealand &#8216;fresh off the boat&#8217; as they say here, we can, with hand on heart call ourselves Kiwis.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Five years, four months and 25 days ago, I wrote a post entitled\u00a0Two pieces of paper, in which I celebrated our family being granted returning residency in New Zealand.
